SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood, micro vial containing apheresis product, micro vial containing filtered bone marrow for harvest


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

Properly drawn K2 EDTA tube of whole blood or a sterile container (micro vial preferred) containing apheresis or filtered bone marrow product. Minimum volume 1 mL.


Special notes: 

TO BE SCHEDULED IN ADVANCE - CALL FLOW LAB, 570-271-5261. Specimen must be delivered to the laboratory immediately. This test is for patients being evaluated for stem cell transplant.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Samples must be processed within 4 hours. 
Do not centrifuge or refrigerate.


Transport temperature: 

Room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

24 hours for blood, 4 hours for apheresis and filtered bone marrow product.


Rejection criteria: 

Specimen stability exceeded, clumped, clotted, hemolyzed.

Reference interval: 

Not applicable. CD34 count reported. Standard reference ranges are not applicable. CD34 stem cell enumeration is performed for transplant purposes. For further information contact Donor Services at 570-271-8959.
