SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

0.5 mL aliquot of serum; minimum 0.25 mL.


Special notes: 

Important: Completely fill 6 mL red-top tube and aliquot ALL serum after centrifuging to ensure adequate volume for any necessary repeat testing.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and immediately separate serum specimens from the cells into clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s). Transport refrigerated (cold packs).


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated or frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 6 hours. Refrigerated: 72 hours. Frozen: 28 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Specimens collected in serum separator tubes (SSTs). Specimens shipped at room temperature. Gross or moderate hemolysis. Gross lipemia. Gross icterus.
