Specimen type:
Serum (preferred) or plasma.
Preferred collection container:

4 mL grey-top (Na fluoride/K oxalate) tube
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
Specimen required:
1 mL aliquot of serum or plasma; minimum 0.2 mL.
Special notes:
Preferred specimen is serum collected in a 6 mL plain red-top (non-serum separator) tube or 6 mL plain dark-blue-top tube (no additive). Plasma collected in EDTA tube or gray-top fluoride oxalate tube is also acceptable. Do not collect in serum separator tube (SST) or heparin tubes.
SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions:
Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge serum or plasma 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.
Transport temperature:
Room temperature (preferred) or refrigerated.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 7 days. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 7 days.
Rejection criteria:
Serum separator tubes and heparinized plasma are not acceptable.
