SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow to clot. Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 1 week. Frozen: 3 weeks.


Rejection criteria: 

Moderately lipemic, grossly lipemic. grossly icteric. Received room temperature

Clinical significance: 

IgD (molecular weight 185 kD) is one of the 5 classes of human immunoglobulins. IgD accounts for less than 1% of the total plasma immunoglobulins. Very high serum IgD concentrations can be found in multiple myeloma patients. Raised levels are also found in hyperimmunoglobulinemia IgD syndrome (HIDS).
