ABO/RH
Geisinger Epic Procedure Code: LAB1501 Geisinger Epic ID: 15618Whole blood.
6 mL whole blood or two (2) full EDTA microcollection tubes.
Only 6 mL pink-top EDTA tubes are acceptable for Add-On testing.
Specimen must be labeled with patient's first and last name, medical record number or some unique other identifier (e.g.,billing number, NOT date of birth). Date of collection and phlebotomist identification (full name or tech ID) must be available. Positive patient identification must be assured. For cord blood samples, o rder CDEV (Cord Evaluation) test battery for ABORH and DAT testing.
Do not centrifuge or aliquot.
Preferred Specimen: Room temperature for 24 hours. If greater than 24 hours, specimen must be stored and transported at 2-8°C.
Specimen must be less than 10 days old for testing.
Tube containing gel separator. Incomplete label ID (see specimen collection notes).

ABO, Rh
ABO Typing, Rh Typing, ABORH, Blood type
ABO/Rh of patient's red blood cells is required to provide compatible plasma and platelets and is part of compatibility testing for red cell transfusion. For prenatal patients, the patient's Rh determines if she is a Rhogam candidate.
