Cerebrospinal fluid

Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of CSF; minimum 0.2 mL.

Deliver immediately to Chemistry Department


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Sample should be processed as soon as possible.

Reference interval: 

45 - 70 mg/dL


Interpretation guide: 

CSF glucose concentration should be ~60% of plasma/serum glucose value.


Critical values/courtesy alerts: 
Below 40 mg/dL, above 200 mg/dL
