SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type:
Whole blood
Preferred collection container:
Specimen required:
4 mL whole blood from a dark-blue-top EDTA tube; minimum 2 mL.
Special notes:
Specimen MUST be colleced in dark-blue-top EDTA tube. Carefully clean skin before venipuncture.
Patient preparation:
Patient should refrain from eating seafood and taking herbal supplements for at least two days before specimen collection.

SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Specimen processing instructions:
Do not centrifuge. Samples should be submitted in certified, clean, heavy metal tubes. 
Transport temperature:
Room temperature (preferred). Refrigerated or frozen specimen also acceptable.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 10 days. Refrigerated: 10 days. Frozen: Unacceptable.
Rejection criteria:
Stability limits exceeded. Improper collection device. Clotted specimen. Frozen specimen.
