Additional information:
This test is performed to detect the molecular rearrangement of the bcr and abl genes involved in translocation 9,22, associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), using FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization). This test may be used in the evaluation of pH negative CML, complex rearrangements or for follow-up to therapy for previously diagnosed Ph+ patients. If one or more fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) tests are ordered on a specimen without chromosome analysis, Test Code 14256 (CPT 88237) will be charged for tissue culture. If results are not possible, the test order may be canceled and replaced by code 416 - Cytogenetics Communication. Bone marrow transport medium is available upon request.
CPT code(s):
88271 x2, 88275
Note: The billing party has sole responsibility for CPT coding.  Any questions regarding coding should be directed to the payer being billed.  The CPT codes provided by GML are based on AMA guidelines and are for informational purposes only.
